(The application form for Active TIOIM Member status can be found at the bottom of this page. By becoming an Active TIOIM Member, you automatically become a member of The International Organization of Independent Minds, TIOIM, or simply Independent Minds).
Both members and non-members may participate in TIOIM activities. Ideally, when a non-member participates in an activity, their participation should be the result of an invitation from at least one member, though this is not mandatory. However, it is common sense for an uninvited person to introduce themselves to a person in charge of that specific activity and request approval to participate.
Anyone who considers themselves an independent thinker can become a member of TIOIM. TIOIM identifies certain characteristics of independent thinking but does not apply rigid selection criteria for joining the organization. The "doors" are wide open. However, there are mechanisms through which membership status can be revoked under the conditions set out in the organization's regulations.
Becoming a member is possible through two paths: Invitation or Sponsorship.
Invitation consists of a written communication sent to the invited person by two current members, using an invitation text (suggested below), followed by the individual's request for membership status (see form below) and the approval of the application based on their agreement with the current TIOIM Internal Regulations.
Sponsorship consists of independently completing an application (the same form, located below) to become a member and waiting for a period of no more than 5 calendar days for either an invitation from two members who take on the role of sponsors or a dialogue for mutual acquaintance before a decision is made.
For minors (under the age of 18), at least one of the sponsors must be the person who bears legal responsibility for the minor. If this responsibility lies with two people (e.g., mother and father), then both must act as sponsors, along with a third person who has a different last name than the sponsored individual.
